Some people make a life long, positive impression on you. You learn life lessons from such enriching people. Aditya and Poonam from Ranthamore are that and more.
This is an obit for Aditya Singh, who the world lost on 6th Sept 2023.
The first time we met Aditya and Poonam was in 2005 at The Ranthambhore Bagh.
What an amazing time we had!
The safaris drives with Aditya were mesmerizing. It never felt we were staying at a hotel/lodge…it felt like home. It was charming, homely and warm. The lodge guests were like-minded people (in love with life, nature and wildlife). The evenings were spent listening to the enthralling stories of wildlife, conservation and beyond.
The place had the most unique character…and that was due to both of them.
We followed Aditya’s work in and for Ranthambhore. Our trips in any national park were planned with his inputs. The umpteen visits to RTR gave us an opportunity to understand the meaningful work they did which went far beyond photography or running a home stay.
Aditya was humble, cheerful, genuine, optionated and large hearted…his sense of humour was epic. Poonam, the artist was his strongest support system.
It is said a country’s natural resources are its biggest asset.
Equally big are the people who protect them.
RTR has lost one of its biggest and genuine asset forever.
We lost a friend.
Hello Poonam Aunty,
My sincere condolences to you and Nyra. Aditya Uncle, you and Ranthambhore Bagh were a crucial part of our childhood and I still fondly remember your mutton and pickle and one particular night in the early 2000s when the electricity had gone and we all sat together and played some board games.
Aditya Uncle and his passion for the wild held more influence in our life than I was ever able to tell him or understand myself until now. We barely managed to meet in the last 15 years but his loss has still hit our family strongly. I’m sure his passion will live on in you and Nyra and will continue to serve as an inspiration for many.
Aditya Uncle was known far and wide, even one of my seniors in my company had spoken about him in a team meeting as an inspiration for somebody who dared to go against the norm to follow his dreams.
His legacy will forver live on in our memories. Sending love and strength to you and Nyra. ♥️🫂

Dicky Singh was a real presence in the forest. In an age, when many conservationists develop reputations sitting in the urban living rooms And become heroes on social media, He was the real thing.
He gave up everything to dedicate his life to Ranthambore.
He was smart, He was authentic, He had no patience for bullshit, He was fearless, And he fought every battle for Ranthambhore whether it was in public or behind the scenes.
Yes, he was a powerful presence. Ranthambhore could never be the same again without him
