  1. Stripes of the Forest
At day break I watched the warming peach-coloured skies to the East, memories drifting towards India and the souls rising to be with the Gods. Favoured souls, joy bringers, those who brought compassion and kindness to people, ordinary people, to eyes far and wide, to kindle the embers of love, to stoke the flames of change, for caring for our natural world and above all the stripes of the forest. Laughter of the monkeys a constant reminder of our need to love, laugh, to smile and play, to embrace everything we hold dear.
    Thank you Dicky.

  2. Condolences
    Dear Poonam,
It has taken me 3 days to gather the courage to write this message to you. I am so very sorry for your’s and Nyra’s loss and also very sorry for ourselves to have lost a great friend, true human being and nature lover. I am still in a state of shock and cannot believe Dicky is gone. He was a soul brother to me. Nothing can make his presence go unnoticed in Ranthambore. Because of Covid impasse, we couldn’t plan our trip to your place but just as we were gearing and planning our next visit to India, this loss struck us. I never felt that we had never met in person. You guys felt like family. In fact I was so distraught that I called Chandana in Seattle to find some solace, the day the news of Dicky’s passing came. In the future when we plan I’ll get in touch with you. In the meantime please carry on Dicky’s legacy which you both built together and pass it on to Nyra, who he loved so much. Please keep posting on his IG and twitter handle, his awesome collection for us to see and appreciate and keep Dicky’s memories alive. Love and hugs to both you and Nyra! Deep respects and prayers. May God give you both Sabr and his old parents too!

  3. Dear Poonam and Nyra,
We are so saddened to hear the devastating news about Dicky… We send you our heartfelt condolences and have spent the whole day remembering him, hearing his deep voice, his laugh and remembering his wisdom. You and Nyra and the whole family of Ranthambhore must be in complete shock… We have been reading many of the online messages showing the phenomenal love and deep respect everyone has for Dicky. Our memories are many – from the Mara and more recently, Samburu a month ago. When we picture him, we see him filling the space at the front of the safari vehicle, holding massive lenses, sneaking out for an occasional smoke, leaning out of the top of the vehicle, spotting wonderful animals, socialising in the evenings . He was always interesting to talk to, laugh with and we always felt comfortable with him, no matter how long it had been since we last saw him. His humour was engaging, his knowledge was amazing and his belief in wildlife was deep. In Samburu last month, we talked with him about his Nikon Z9 – we also have the same camera and we laughed when he proudly said he had read all 907 pages of the Instruction manual. He had offered to communicate with us about the camera from his point of view as well as ours so we could share expertise. Andy and Susie have always considered you to be their second family – their Indian wedding certainly showed the depth of love between you all. When they get back from Svalbard we will see them and we will raise a toast together to salute a remarkable person… Dicky was a unique character who we will always remember. We are proud to have known him. He laughed in Samburu when we joked “Do you remember us Dicky?” To which he replied “Of course I do!” He made everyone feel important. We may be in the UK but we are with you in spirit…
    Best regards,

  4. Very sorry for your loss
    Hi Poonam,
I am very sorry for your and Nyra’s loss. Aditya was a fantastic person, always found humour in every situation, generously shared his phenomenal knowledge on tigers, conservation, Ranthambhore, Masai Mara and photography, and was one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. I recall sitting in the blazing sun in May this year at Rajbagh palace, waiting for the leopard to appear, and listening to his sheer enthusiasm despite the heat. In a world of over 8 billion people, there are few genuine people like him. I pray for strength to you and Nyra in this difficult time.
    Regards,

  5. Sympathy
    Dear Poonam and Nyra
I was deeply saddened that your dear husband and father from Nyra is no longer with us. It was so nice with him on safari and that we could share his great knowledge. It hurts to lose a friend and my thoughts are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy is with you and I hope that you will receive great support during this difficult time.
From my heart love to you, Nyra and your family

  6. Hi Vicky. Its been a few days since I got the shocking news about Dicky. I thought it would be better if I waited few days until after the initial shock before I offered condolences from Shirley, Adith and me to you and your family on your shocking loss. May Dicky’s soul rest in peace and may God be with all of you during this difficult time. We shall always remember him with great love.
    Om Shanti🙏🙏🙏

  7. Condolences
    Dear Poonam….
Word of Dicky’s passing has made it to these shores, and I know myself and the group who visited you, and had Dicky as a guide, are devastated with the news. Dicky always willingly and kindly helped me, and most recently with connections in Nepal last year. I am so sorry for your loss…and the tigers have lost one of their biggest forces. Sending you and your family love and light, and my deepest condolences.
    Best-

  8. Dear Poonam
I have just seen the Facebook post. I am so so sorry. I don’t know what else to say except that the little portion of his life we spent with Dicky was special. Such a lovely person to spend time with and we were looking forward so much to our next meeting. Condolences and love to you and Nyra.

  9. A very sad day.. Dearest Poonam, There is an old saying that “Sad news travels fast” and it could not be more true to-day, News has already reached us (even though we are not on any of the Social Media websites) of your very heartbreaking loss of Dicky. We are only just getting over the shock so cannot imagine how you and Nyra feel at this time. Although we are far away we just wished you to know that we are thinking of you both and I know all our fellow travellers on our Tigers Eye Tours will also wish us to express their condolences at this very sad time. We will all remember all the kindnesses Dicky showed to every one of our groups when we visited the Bagh and beyond.
    Deepest and heartfelt sympathies

  10. I am so so sorry Dearest Poonam. I am so so sorry to find out just now that Dicky passed away this morning. This is devastating and shocking news. My heartfelt condolences to both you and dear Nyra. It must feel that a light has been extinguished in your lives. He was such a wonderful funny, energetic, enthusiastic and vibrant man with a passion for tigers, for Ranthambhore for photography, for his home that you and he created. I have such happy memories of my time in Ranthambhore with you all. We will never forget him. Life will not be the same without Dicky. Praying for you both – and hope that there is someone there to support you at this time. Please do not think about replying to this email but know that I am thinking of you both. With love and sadness
